General Studies
The General Studies programme forms an important part of the Sixth Form curriculum. It integrates teaching from all departments and represents a unifying of studies across traditional boundaries. Students are taught by a variety of teachers during the two years of the course, and will study modules in Culture, Morality and the Arts, Science, Maths & Technology and Society, Politics & the Economy. Some students are able to take an extended course in Critical Thinking which is particularly orientated towards the preparation for Thinking Skills Entrance Examinations at Cambridge and for Medical, Veterinary and Law Schools.
General Studies A Level is taken by all pupils and tests the breadth of student’s knowledge and their interpretative skills. Students learn how to make public presentations, and are addressed by a series of external speakers during the course. General Studies encourages students to maintain broad interests in many aspects of contemporary society and academic excellence.
