Mathematics

All boys study Mathematics. Our teaching follows the outline of the National Curriculum. Our course gives a good grounding in mathematical concepts and their application to a wide range of situations.

For Key Stage 3 boys are taught in form groups for the first two years, then from the Lower 5th onwards they are setted according to their ability. At Key Stage 4 we follow the IGCSE course, assessed through the Edexcel syllabus. All boys enter for the Higher level, for which there is no coursework. Boys from the top sets have the opportunity to take GCSE Statistics as well.

In the Sixth Form, we follow the MEI Structured Mathematics A-level. This is a modular scheme which can lead to either A-Level or AS-level Mathematics qualifications. In addition, we offer Further Mathematics and Further Mathematics Additional. These flexible A-level courses can be tailored to most abilities and may be combined with both arts and science subjects.

Mathematics contains in itself a very broad spread of subjects. Our courses concentrate on Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics, with
opportunities to extend study to include Decision Mathematics and Numerical Analysis.
