Warwick School

In the first five years in the senior school all boys have one period per week of Religion and Philosophy. The course is designed to enable the boys to understand the role of belief systems in shaping behaviour, how different belief systems relate to contemporary issues and also to develop their critical thinking. The first two years provide an introduction to methods of study of belief systems, an overview of the Christian faith and its roots in Judaism, an introduction to the Bible and an exploration of some moral issues.

As the course progresses the boys study a range of ethical theories and the way these create different points of view on various issues; there is an introduction to the main philosophies which have influenced Western Culture. The first 4 years of the course also includes a basic introduction to Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Sikhism.

In the Sixth Form the general studies programme followed by all students contains courses which explore our beliefs and value systems from a variety of perspectives.

In addition to this general course, followed by all boys, there is also the option to study RS (Philosophy and Ethics) at GCSE and Philosophy at AS and A2. These courses are designed to develop philosophical, historical, literary and analytical skills. Both RS and Philosophy are demanding academic options and are well thought of by universities as they provide evidence of a boy's ability to think and express his ideas
coherently.

Warwick School is a Christian foundation and all Religious Studies and Philosophy teaching reflects that foundation faith, however at whatever level Religious Studies is pursued, boys of any faith position are
challenged to analyse their own views and those of others and learn to build logical arguments to support their views.
