Hockey
The 1st XI recorded their best win of the season with a 10 - 0 win against Stourport High, last Wednesday.
In a hard fought first 10 minutes the Warwick midfield eventually came out on top, and from then on dominated the game, which resulted in a goal fest for the forwards.
The 3rd XI beat Queen Mary’s School Walsall 4 - 1.
Last Thursday saw the Under 13 team draw 1 - 1 with a strong Bloxham School Under 13A team with a well taken goal scored by George Connel, and some excellent goal keeping by Nick Dunkerley.
The Under 12 team narrowly lost 2 - 1 to the Bloxham Under 13 B team, and the under 15 team drew 1 - 1 with M.C.S. Oxford.
Yesterday the Under 15 team were in action again, running out 6 - 0 winners against K.E.S. Birmingham, the Under 14 team were defeated 3 - 1 in their match against K.E.S. Birmingham.
I am delighted to hear that Max Jennings and Ian Reynolds have been selected to represent Warwickshire under 17s at hockey
Rugby
The rugby players had a very successful fixture against Nottingham High School on Saturday with 11 of the 12 teams recording wins.
The 3rd XV won 49 – 0 with Chris Wood scoring a hat-trick taking his season tally of tries to 25. Robert Pickering also scored a hat -trick. Man of the Match was Matt Madden
The U12 B team won 38 – 7 with tries from Hain, Dent, Coy, Godwin, and Arnell. This was the team’s best performance of the season, in which Warwick managed to deny room to a potentially dangerous set of forwards, and the backs lined up well in attack. Warwick made very few handling errors and their defence was sound. Jamie Breakwell was always in the action and Will Arnell employed the dummy to good effect, and enjoyed a seventy yard run to the line. The highlight of the match was Archie Dent’s scintillating ninth-minute try in which he weaved his way through most of the opposition before touching down.
The U13As won 29-0. This was another excellent performance. Nottingham had a big pack and Warwick had to very work hard to subdue them. Tries were scored by Kiron Phillips, Josh Hickman, Ben Whidborne and 2 from man-of-the-match, Miles Dean.
Chamber Concert
A privileged audience listened to a marvellous recital on Friday night in the Bridge House Theatre as a number of our senior musicians played in a superb Chamber concert. All who attended were most impressed by the very high quality of the musicianship.
There is a sell out for the forthcoming Jazz concert on Friday and I look forward to seeing a number of you there. I’m also pleased that the theatre this evening will be full to capacity for the Sir Ben Kingsley lecture, given by Justin King, the Chief Executive Officer of Sainbury’s plc.
Chess
The Chess players continue their excellent run of form with a 5-1 win over Blue Coat. This gives them an undefeated run of 7 matches – amongst the best chess performances for a number of years. Well done the chess team.
