U14 Cup Winners in 7s competitions

Cup Winners at Warwick, Solihull and Bromsgrove7s.

The Under 14A Rugby 7s squad continue to progress from strength to strength, winning the Bromsgrove 7s Cup competition on Tuesday 7 March. This is the third consecutive 7s tournament the Under 14s have won, adding a third trophy to the cabinet. Winning cup competitions at the Warwick, Solihull and Bromsgrove 7s tournaments is a remarkable achievement, making them the most successful 7s team in the school and real contenders for the National Cup at the Rosslyn Park 7s tournament later in the term. After dominating the group at the Bromsgrove 7s, the team faced a strong Kenilworth side in the semi-final. This did not phase the team, resulting in Warwick winning 26-0. The team progressed to the final where they faced old rivals Bromsgrove, who were obviously keen to write the wrongs from the week before and win a home competition.
A slow start and combination of uncharacteristic errors left Warwick down 14-0 at half-time. However, with some regrouping and refocussing, the Warwick team started the second half with all to play for. Impressive trys came from Whiteley and Mobberley leaving the score at 14-10 with Warwick kicking off into the final play. A mistake from Bromsgrove resulted in Whiteley turning over the ball and off-loading out of the tackle to Mobberley who had it all left to do. Mobberley, surrounded by three Bromsgrove players, accelerated down the touchline to go over in the corner, taking cup victory for Warwick. Undoubtedly the performance of the season so far, with the whole squad demonstrating true Warwick courage, determination and mental resilience.
We wish the team all the best in their preparation for the Rosslyn Park National 7s competition next week.
