Swine Flu Update

Swine Flu Update Number 4 - 6th July

We have been informed that an U5th pupil has been confirmed as having Influenza A type H1N1 “Swine flu”. He has not been in school since feeling unwell as he has been on work experience. He has been given Tamiflu.
We are following the Health Protection Agency’s (HPA) School Helpline’s latest instructions which are that school does not need to close.
HPA advice is that if your son does become unwell with flu-like symptoms, please keep him at home, seek medical advice and inform us. If your son even has a sore throat then please keep him at home for 24 hours to see if this develops. If it is swine flu it will be apparent within 24 hours.
We will of course closely monitor the situation and keep you informed.

Swine Flu Update Number 3

Parents will be very aware that Warwick School has taken every precaution to follow best practice in protecting the school community from the Pandemic Swine Influenza virus. You will know that local and national schools have had outbreaks of Swine Influenza and we have been monitoring this situation closely.

On Tuesday 16th June a Junior School boy fell ill and was sent home. There was a link between this boy and pupils from the Hall School in Hampstead, London where subsequently cases of Swine ‘Flu became evident. Our Junior School boy was immediately taken to the doctor who suspected he had tonsillitis, but in any event the boy was tested for Swine ‘Flu and remained at home until the following week. On the advice of the Health Protection Agency, the boy’s GP and in full consultation with the medical staff here the boy has now returned to school. We were told today (25th June) that his test for Swine ‘Flu had been positive but as sufficient time had elapsed whilst he was home there is no threat to pupils or staff at Warwick School.

The advice from the Health Protection Agency this morning was very clear. The correct protocols have been followed and there is no need for concern.

The same precautionary advice does remain, however: please follow good “Sneeze etiquette”, wash your hands regularly and be mindful of the phrase, “Coughs and sneezes spread diseases.” If you or any member of your family does feel ill with flu-like symptoms please contact the NHS quickly, remain isolated and inform the school immediately.
