Lower Fifth (Year 9)

Within PSHCE boys use the software programme Fast Tomato which helps pupils to look at Careers choices and the skills needed.

General discussion and individual advice from Form Tutor.

Individual appointments with Head of Careers.

Options Evening and talk.

Middle Fifth (Year 10)

Within PSHCE boys use the Kudos software programme - an online questionnaire which suggests possible careers to investigate and relevant university courses.  

Invited to attend biannual Higher Education and Careers Fair.

Take part in an Enterprise Interactive Day focusing on team, leadership, financial and organisational skills.

Liaison officers from Armed Forces.

Individual advice from Head of Careers when required.

Upper Fifth (Year 11)

The major careers programme begins in the Upper Fifth Year (Year 11).

In September boys take the Cambridge Occupational Analyst Profile Aptitude test followed by an individual specialist careers interview. Boys receive a workbook which reveals a picture of their academic and occupational interests and strengths. It includes suggestions for possible careers and A levels.

In October parents are invited to attend a "Careers Evening for Parents”. This is an opportunity to hear about our compulsory Work Experience Programme which takes place after GCSE examinations.

U5 are invited to attend weekly “Business Lunches”.

Within PSHCE boys use Careerscape and Kudos software programmes for option choices and career planning.

Invited to attend biannual Higher Education and Careers Fair.

Compulsory Work Experience week in the summer term after GCSE examinations.

Liaison officers from Armed Forces.

1:1 interviews with the Head of Careers.

Talk by leading University on Higher Education.

Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13)

The majority of our boys go on to University and advice and guidance is given to help boys choose the right course and University. Careers Staff, Form Tutors, Subject Teachers and Heads of Academic Departments are all involved in this process.

Boys are encouraged to come to the Careers Department for 1:1 interviews giving advice on:

  • Choosing the right degree course
  • University Open Days
  • Taster Courses
  • Work Experience
  • Taking a Gap Year
  • Interview Skills

Pupils and parents are invited to an evening entitled "Through the Jungle" where the schools' Head of UCAS and external speakers go through the outline process of applying to university.

UCAS Workshop day where boys are given help particularly in writing their Personal Statements to support their university applications.

Invited to attend weekly "Business Lunches".

Attendance at biannual Higher Education and Careers Fair.

Specialist speakers on CV writing, interview and employability skills; this also includes talks given by universities.

Liaison officers from Armed Forces.

Boys are encouraged to take the Centigrade Test if they are unsure about which courses to study at university.
