Year 1

English:
Sentence construction, structured word building and spelling; comprehension; creative writing. Reading, decoding, and development; the promotion of oral fluency and listening. Use of keyboard skills in ICT. Develop speaking skills in Drama.

Mathematics:
A great emphasis is put onto the boys learning their tables, developing mental arithmetic skills and problem solving. The main topics taught are telling the time, the 4 rules, the concept of simple fractions, sorting of 2 dimensional shapes, investigating number patterns, graphs, data handling and symmetry.

Science:
The observation, recording and analysis of living and non-living things, which make up our environment. This is also investigated using the practical and experimental approach to meet the demands of the National Curriculum.

I.C.T.:
Combining Text and Graphics, E-Mail, Manipulating Sound, Introduction to Databases, Exploring Simulations.

History:
The study of Romans and Egyptians

Geography:
Understanding and using maps at various scales. Weather around the world. Investigating our local area.

Religious Education:
The study of stories of The Old Testament. Caring for myself and others, Harvest Festival.

Music, French, Art, Technology, Physical Education, Games and Performing Arts complete the curriculum.
