James Selected for RYA National Youth Squad

Warwick School has a proud history of student athletes who have achieved great things in their chosen sports – not only during their time at school – but also after they have left. Current old boys have gone on to careers playing professional Cricket, Rugby and Football, whilst a good number have also competed at the highest levels of their sport in Athletics, Hockey and Squash to name a few.

The school now runs a bespoke programme specifically tailored to support boys with the desire and potential to achieve such honours in the future. The Performance Support Pathway works with a number of current Y10-12 pupils through mentoring and a series of seminars introducing them to important aspects of performance sport which they may not normally come across.

Specific sessions this year have covered topics such as time management strategies, goal setting, mental skills development, recovery strategies, sports nutrition and hydration, along with developing an understanding of important high-performance behaviours.

James is one such athlete involved in the pathway. He is one of the country’s up and coming sailors competing in the Laser ILAC 6 class. Although only 16, he competes regularly with adults and Youth Athletes up to U21 – regularly holding his own or bettering them!

This year James has been selected for the RYA National Youth Squad, and this week he is in Greece competing in the European Championships. We wish him the best of luck.
