Message from Mr Hymer: 15 December 2022

Our Choirs have enjoyed a busy end to the year performing at the Christmas Concert and also in the Carol Service. Our Micro Choir added a further engagement when they sang at Myton Hospice in their Service of Remembrance. The boys were the most wonderful ambassadors for the school in performing two pieces the 'Three Wise Men and 'Carol of the Bells'.

It was a pleasure to be back at St Mary's for our Carol Service on Tuesday. As with a number of key events, it was the first time since December 2018 that we have been able to gather together. Our readers led the congregation through the service and our choirs were magnificent.

The Christmas events have come thick and fast and together with the traditional Stagger, House Quiz and a pantomime, it has been a suitably festive way to conclude the year. I must take this opportunity to thank PAWS, the Parents Association of Warwick School for their generous funding of the pantomime  Aladdin.

It is with sadness that I conclude this newsletter. Whilst it is always a challenge to cram into each week's edition a suitable summary of all that school life provides, it has also proved to be a weekly reminder of how lucky the boys are to be part of Warwick Junior School.

I leave with many happy memories. I will miss the opportunity to address the boys every Monday morning and to join them in the classroom and on the games field. I will take with me memories of our outstanding concerts, our plays at the Bridge House Theatre and the fun we had on residential visits. Schools are but buildings without the boys and the staff. I have been incredibly lucky to have worked alongside so many talented staff and boys.

Moving forward, I have been persuaded to delay my full retirement until the summer. I will be taking on a two-term contract teaching Year 4 boys and girls at one of my previous schools. I think it will be a fulfilling way to end my teaching career by returning to the classroom as a form teacher.

Finally, I would like to thank the parents, staff and boys for all their kind messages and gifts. I would like to wish everyone in our community a most enjoyable Christmas and a happy New Year.
