Authors visit for World Book Day
In anticipation of World Book Day (Thursday 1 March) Warwick School welcomed Cressida Cowell, acclaimed author of the popular series ‘How To Train Your Dragon’.
Cressida spoke of her passion for writing at an early age, spending family holidays on an isolated island off the North West coast of Scotland (where there were once dragons), how it ‘fired’ her imagination and about the relationship that Hiccup has with his father, a similarity in relationship she has with her father.
She talked about the first book in her new series ‘The Wizards of Once’, the same day it was revealed she had been awarded the enormously popular and influential ‘Blue Peter Book Awards 2018 – best story’ for this very book! Cressida gave Warwick Junior School and Warwick Preparatory School pupils some thought provoking ideas and writing tips before some all-important book signings for a number of the young readers.
There were lots of activities going on during World Book Day, including reading a 'Story in a Day', a book treasure hunt, quizzes and 'guess the weight of the books' prize draw. The Junior School first year boys were also incredibly excited about a visit from Geronimo Stilton. The boys dressed up in either Egyptian costume or as Geronimo himself, inspired by Geronimo’s adventures in ‘The Curse of the Cheese Pyramid’. There were art and craft activities, a reading session and time for more book signing!
