Billy's continued Chess Success

Billy recently competed in the U8 section of the London Junior Chess Championship having secured third place in the U10 competition earlier in the month.

Against some of the best chess players in the county, Billy retained his title with a perfect 7/7 wins across two days of competition.

Before Christmas Billy had been in Estonia playing for England in the European Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship facing the best U8 chess players in the whole of Europe.

In the Rapidplay event, Billy scored 6.5 points out of 9 games placing him joint-fourth out of 84 participants. As well as being England's highest-placed representative, Billy was the leading player from Western Europe.
In the team event, Billy found himself alongside players a year older. Again Billy was successful and the team's main contributor scoring 4.5 points out of 7.
In the final event, the Blitz section, Billy found himself competing against players two year his senior. He produced another superb performance scoring 5.5 points out of 9. Billy came 51st out of 151 participants, the joint second highest contributor for the England U10 team.
In total, Billy scored 16.5 points from 25 games across three days. Billy will have a further two years in the U10 category. We look forward to following his progress.
