A Day in the Life

Student Investor Competition

Nearly one hundred of our fifth and sixth formers entered the National Student Investor Competition last October with each team of four selecting a portfolio of commonly traded FTSE stocks.  A creditable six Warwick School teams made the cut with returns of 5% or more on their portfolios in the four months and joined the 300 of the 5000 nationally entered teams who got through to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Stock the Week, with Theo Barnes, Max Bottomley, Archie Hurley and Guy Mullan, got off to a flyer and even led the national rankings briefly. However fickle market conditions pulled them back to a finishing position of 88th and they failed to make the final.  Other Warwick teams showing financial form were Wemissmrgraham including Alex Ng, Bryden Yip, Marco Chan and Samuel Chan who finished 121st and Midas Touch comprising Alec Steeley, Rahul Bains, Jonathan Varnish and Jimin Lee who were close to the top for much of the semi-final but faded to finish 145th.

It was an impressive performance by our young investors who will carry forward useful techniques to bring future wealth and success in the real world markets.
