Is Warwick Junior School a good school?
Whether you have browsed our website or social channels, seen the school for yourself, or heard from our Headmaster, John Bond, you will know that we are extremely proud of all that we do here at Warwick Junior School.
From our wholly committed staff, the wealth of opportunities available, and the structures of support that are in place, we do everything in our power to develop our boys’ confidence, independence, and resilience. This approach, along with a challenging yet nurturing academic environment and a first-class co-curricular provision, means that we truly believe that Warwick Junior School is the best place for your son to take the next step of his educational journey.
Despite this, we know that choosing your son’s next steps is a hugely important decision for parents to make. So, you shouldn’t just take our word for it…
To help make your decision that little bit easier, we sought after an objective* view of what you should expect if your son joins us at Warwick Junior School:
1. A broad, challenging but encouraging academic environment
Academic excellence, personal progress, and a joy of learning are fundamental to a Warwick Junior School education. Our excellent teaching staff support boys in developing a depth of knowledge and understanding across the different academic disciplines.
As well as promoting the importance of knowledge, we recognise and promote our learning strengths — skills which need to be applied inside and outside the classroom.
During the first two years, boys are taught most lessons by their Form Tutor, with subject specialists teaching Modern Foreign Languages, Music, Art and Design, Computing, Games, and PE. As boys move into Years 5 and 6, they benefit from a full range of specialist teachers. We find that this structure provides the close support that boys need in the first two years, with additional opportunities and increased responsibility in the latter two preparing them effectively for the academic environment at senior school.
2. First-class co-curricular and enrichment opportunities

Enriching our pupils with experiences beyond their typical classroom lessons is a huge part of life at Warwick Junior School. Sport, Music, and Performing Arts are key areas in which pupils can immerse themselves in, alongside partaking in a range of co-curricular clubs and activities.
We encourage boys to broaden their horizons by taking on new challenges; pupils can choose from over 80 clubs and activities designed to develop new interests, to broaden skills, or to help achieve excellence in a particular area of school life.
By providing unique programmes, our boys often develop talents and learn new skills that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to elsewhere, and we are confident that we have something on offer that meet the needs of all pupils who join us. Opportunities such as joining Buggy Builders, Cookery, Kung Fu, Maths in Motion, and Young Engineers, or one of our many musical clubs or sporting groups, will help to enrich your son’s school experience.
Whilst we always strive for — and consistently achieve — excellence, we believe in celebrating all boys. This approach is particularly evident in sport; we have several high-performing first teams across a variety of sports, but also recognise that all boys should have the opportunity to represent the school in the sport of their choice, so we give them the platform to do this.
No matter which opportunity appeals most to your son, our staff possess the knowledge, enthusiasm, and experience to develop and guide him to reach his full potential.
3. Wellbeing and Pastoral Care

Our pastoral care provision centres around the fact that when pupils join Warwick Junior School, they become part of our warm, close-knit community; we strive to create a family-like atmosphere which enables us to learn about every boy on an individual level.
Our school environment cultivates strong relationships and mutual respect between children and staff, which further helps us to understand each boy’s needs and allows us to fulfil them more effectively. Through this approach, we aim to foster a sense of belonging that is so vital in our pupils’ formative years.
We recognise the importance of wellbeing in helping a pupil grow intellectually and emotionally, and our Form Tutors lie at the heart of this approach. The Form Tutor is the main support and advocate for each boy, and in most instances, teaches the boys in the classroom as well as seeing them at three points during the school day. Form Tutors also provide a vital link with parents, ensuring that your son feels supported and his needs are met.
Alongside our dedicated Wellbeing Hub, our wellbeing dog, Aggie, has been a very welcome addition to our wellbeing provision since she started ‘working’ in September 2022. She seems to know when pupils need a quiet cuddle on the sofa and sits calmly with them, or when boys want some fun and distraction!
There are also times when pupils may need additional help from a trained counsellor; our counsellor, Mr Steve Goodrem, is a specialist trained in supporting younger children, and holds weekly meetings with individuals to help support them with whatever problems life brings.
4. Preparing for a seamless transition to senior school

We know that for many of our parents, the decision of which junior school to enrol your son in doesn’t just consider those years, but also how the school will prepare your son for senior school and help to make that transition more seamless.
As a through-school to Warwick Senior School, we are well-versed in the best ways to prepare our boys for that step up; boys moving on from Warwick Junior School receive a firm foundation that prepares them for the next step of their journey and effectively sets them up for life beyond Year 6.
Our commitment to ensuring readiness for senior school filters through all levels; it is a team effort between the leadership team, subject and class teachers, the boys, and parents to ensure a successful transition to senior school, and we aim to begin this preparation right from when boys join us in Year 3.
Beyond academic readiness, we strive to ensure that boys have the necessary organisation and independent skills to thrive in the senior school environment. Boys develop strong links with their Form Tutors who provide consistent, nurturing support in developing personal organisation. Our curriculum and academic structure supports the boys in being more independent moving around the school and adapting to different subjects and teachers, but they are also supported in being more independent and responsible learners. Not to mention our extensive residentials and trip programme, which develops the independent skills needed for their future life.
The wealth of opportunities in the classroom, alongside participation in clubs, music, and sport, provide our boys with the confidence to take on the new challenges awaiting them at senior school. This means that by the time that our boys leave us, they do so as young leaders with open minds; inquisitive about the world around them and possessing the skills to make the most of future opportunities.
5. The verdict

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. We are immensely proud of our educational offering, and for all the reasons above and much more, we believe that Warwick Junior School is the perfect next step in your son’s educational journey.
