Music
The Junior Music Department is a very busy, lively and rewarding part of Junior School life. The boys have a weekly class music lesson, experiencing music topics such as Indian Music, African Drumming, Reggae, Rap, Classical Music and Jazz, through composition, performance and listening.
In Year 3, the boys all take part in the String Project. Every boy learns the violin, viola, 'cello or mini bass as part of his class music lessons each week. This is to enable the boys to experience all of the musical elements and music theory that they are taught, in a practical, enjoyable and fun way.
Individual music lessons are offered on a wide range of instruments by our experienced instrumental teachers. We currently have over 180 boys learning at least one musical instrument.
We have a flourishing choir with over 120 participants. Recent concert venues have included Coventry Cathedral and our boys also take part in the Young Voices Concert at the NEC.
There are weekly rehearsals of the School Orchestra, Big Choir, Micro Choir, three Rock Bands, String Orchestra, Chamber Strings, Brass Monkeys, Wind Band, Guitar Group, Flute Group, ‘Cello Group and Hand Bells. All of these contribute to a wide range of concerts, services and events, both in and out of school over the school year. There is something for everyone!
