  • IAPS National Swimming Finals 2025

    Published 13/06/25

On Saturday, 7 June, Warwick Junior School had the honour of competing in the IAPS National Swimming Finals 2025, held at the world-renowned London Aquatics Centre.

Our boys performed amazingly, not only in the pool but also in the way they conducted themselves throughout the afternoon. Their sportsmanship, team spirit, and determination were a credit to themselves and to the school.

The Year 6 team, made up of Jake, Joshua, Harrison, and Harry, qualified for the U11 Medley Relay. In their heat, they delivered a remarkable performance, knocking an impressive six seconds off their qualifying time and finishing 11th in the country.

The Year 5 team, consisting of Leon, George, Jasper, and Arlo, qualified for both the Medley and Freestyle Relay Finals. In both events, they swam with incredible energy and focus, finishing 5th overall. After a false start, all teams were reinstated into the race and asked to swim the heat again, resulting in the team missing out on a podium finish by less than a second.

Several of our swimmers also qualified for individual finals, placing them amongst the top 20 swimmers in the country in their respective events. George gave a valiant effort in the 50m Butterfly, finishing 19th in a very strong field. Jake came agonisingly close to a medal in the U11 50m Butterfly, finishing 5th in a blanket finish — just a tenth of a second behind third place and only 1.5 seconds behind the winner. Leon ended the day on a high note with an amazing swim in the U10 50m Breaststroke, securing an impressive 2nd place. His time of 41 seconds was just seven-tenths of a second behind the gold medallist, who set a new IAPS national record.

The boys should be incredibly proud of their achievements, and we are immensely proud of the way they represented the school on such a prestigious stage. Well done to all!

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 13 June

    Published 13/06/25

Creativity was the focus of the assembly this week as we started out looking at our last learning strength of the academic year. We looked at the early patents of inventions such as a maglev train, solar cells and GPS, all of which, when first proposed, were not seen as credible inventions. However, as time has progressed, these creative ideas have become key technological advances which have shaped our world today. Not all inventions are groundbreaking and the boys enjoyed hearing about the hayfever hat, napping pillow and cereal serving device! I shared with the boys the picture book story, ‘What do you do with an Idea’ by Kobi Yamada which asked them to reflect on being patient with ideas, nurturing them and allowing  them to grow so that someday they may not only give us joy but may even change the world.

This was a very busy week at the Junior School. There were some fantastic results from the IAPS National Swimming Championships last weekend; well done to all the boys involved and please read Mr Burchett’s report on the Championships in this newsletter. There were also a number of cricket and athletic fixtures this week and also a very successful Year 4 tennis link day with Warwick Prep School.

A highlight of the week was the House Music competition where boys from across the age groups sung, played and performed with great skill and confidence in representing their house. We were joined by Mr Mann, the Head of Music from Warwick School ,and he was hugely impressed by the performances and also by the fact the boys organised and rehearsed their pieces with very little adult support. Well done to all the boys who auditioned and also those who participated in the final round

Year 5 have been enjoying the Dorset coast on their residential this week. It sounds like they are having a great time, and we look forward to hearing more about it on their return.

    With best wishes,

    John Bond

  • Sixth annual Warwick Junior School Aquathlon

    Published 13/06/25

On Friday, 6 June, pupils took part in the sixth annual Warwick Junior School Aquathlon, and what a brilliant afternoon it was! With the weather being an improvement on last year, it created the perfect conditions for an afternoon full of energy, excitement, and team spirit.

Throughout the event, boys from every year group demonstrated a wonderful attitude. They stayed focused during their races and supported one another with lots of encouragement. It was clear to see how our school’s learning strengths—resilience, focus, independence, and responsibility—were being put into action in every splash and stride.

The event was particularly special for our Year 3 boys, who were taking part in the aquathlon for the very first time. Even though a few boys took an unexpected turn on the running course, they showed great determination and handled the challenge with enthusiasm. Their efforts were a fantastic example of the resilience and independence we encourage in all our pupils.

The aquathlon is not just about individual performance; it’s all about celebrating teamwork and camaraderie. From helping each other prepare, to cheering on friends at the finish line, the sense of community was inspiring. Every boy raced not only for himself but for his house, earning valuable points in this exciting house competition.

After a closely contested event, congratulations go to Terra House who were crowned this year's champions. Congratulations must also go to the top three finishers in each year:

  • Warwick Junior School House Music Competition

    Published 12/06/25

Winning the House Music Competition filled me with so much joy, knowing that Mr Mann, the adjudicator, thought Terra was the best and even commenting on the song that my band, (me, Will and Teddy) performed - 'Can't Stop' by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. He said it reminded him of his adolescence. As soon as the words 'Terra' came from his mouth, I leapt out of my seat and bounded over to the trophy and did a 'politician-like' handshake for the camera. Ever since I was in Year 3, watching others do the same, it was my dream to win the House Music Cup, and now we've done it!

  • Year 6’s spectacular theatre production!

    Published 06/06/25

On the 22 and 23 May, Year 6 gave the rest of the school a chance to relax and watch their spectacular theatre production of the story (which was popularised by Disney), Aladdin.

Year 6 worked incredibly hard in both the rehearsals and in the actual production. The final production certainly was worth the wait despite the (sometimes) fiddly rehearsals.

Aladdin and his pals (Babkak, Omar and Kassim) are street rats in the world of Agrabah, until Aladdin meets Jafar and his sidekick, Iago. He leads him to the Cave of Wonders where Aladdin gets trapped and finds the magical Genie lamp. He wishes to become a prince so that he can be a suitor of Princess Jasmine, who, urged by her servants (Manal, Isir and Rajah), goes out into the streets of Agrabah where she meets Aladdin.

Jafar, however, wants Genie’s lamp so that he can take the place of the Sultan.

So, Aladdin and his pals go into the palace where he is confronted by Jafar, who gets his hands on the lamp. He then wastes no time in revealing Aladdin’s true identity. Jafar then wishes to become a Genie. He is then sucked into his own lamp and becomes trapped forever.

Jasmine and Aladdin live happily ever after!

The show was hilarious. It had amazing and catchy musical numbers and certainly lots of unforgettable lines.

Year 6 had a fabulous time doing it – what a great experience it was!

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 6 June

    Published 05/06/25

Last weekend saw the Midlands Air Festival and across the region many people looked to the skies to see the Red Arrows display team. In assembly on Monday, the boys learnt some facts about the Red Arrows, witnessing their skill and teamwork in completing their amazing displays. During their displays the Red Arrows are often seen flying in a ‘V’ formation and I discussed with the boys how geese fly in a similar formation. They do this because improved aerodynamics means they use less energy and can fly further distances. There were other lessons that the boys could take from the behaviour of the geese, including the importance of teamwork and supporting others when they are finding things difficult.

Well done to all the boys for their focus and resilience this week as they completed their assessments. However, there were plenty of distractions from the assessments, in the form of cricket and swimming fixtures, as well as the House Aquathlon which took place today.

Good luck to all the boys who are competing in the IAPS National Swimming Finals tomorrow – we look forward to hearing how they got on next week.

    With kind regards,

    John Bond

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 23 May

    Published 23/05/25

It is very apt that this week we are reflecting on our learning strength, Focus. After many weeks of practice and rehearsal – and focus – Year 6 put on their performance of Aladdin Jr. Faced with the challenges of a very short half-term and some technical hitches in the theatre, the boys put together a fantastic performance, from the singing, dancing and acting on stage and the wonderful house band, to the great work of the behind-the-scenes sound, lighting and stage crew. The boys demonstrated not just talent and enthusiasm but also teamwork. Well done to all the Year 6 boys and also thank you to the staff, especially Miss Curle, Miss Sharp, Ms Sayers, Mr Lewis and Mrs Robertson, who spent many hours putting the show together.

As you are aware, Miss Sharp will be leaving the Junior School at the end of the summer term. There will be a number of opportunities to thank her after half-term for all her wonderful work with Junior School music, inspiring hundreds of boys to love and enjoy their music. We are delighted that Mrs Stef Glover has been appointed as our new Junior School Director of Music, and we look forward to welcoming her to the community in September.

Wishing you an enjoyable half-term break,

    John Bond

  • The UK Schools Chess Challenge

    Published 19/05/25

On Sunday, 11 May, the Birmingham Megafinal of the prestigious UK Schools Chess Challenge, the world's biggest junior chess tournament, took place.

A number of boys from Warwick Junior School took part and did themselves and the school proud - all taking home points from what was a very strong field; four of the five sections featured members of the England national junior team and dozens of members of the Warwickshire Junior Chess Squad also competed in all five sections.

The star performer was Warwick's youngest representative, Alex. In his first time competing on this stage, he scored a fantastic 4/6 in the U8 section and qualified for the Gigafinal, the penultimate stage of the competition. Remarkably, he did so despite being outrated in every single game. Congratulations to Alex and all the boys who competed!

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 16 May

    Published 16/05/25

This week, we introduced our new learning strength, Focus. The boys gave some thoughtful responses to the importance of focus and concentration in achieving our aims. We discussed how we can lose focus, sometimes through external distractions such as noise, but also through internal distractions, where we are distracted by our feelings and emotions. Using a clip from the film ‘Inside Out’, we reflected on how our emotions can sometimes deflect us from the task at hand. Such emotions and thoughts are natural, and it is important to understand how they will affect our focus. We continued by discussing the importance of sleep, a healthy diet, exercise, breaks and effective listening in ensuring that we focus both inside and outside the classroom.

Last weekend it was wonderful to welcome Year 1 boys and parents from the Prep School and other local schools to our Explorers Morning. Taking part in a range of activities, the boys had their first taste of life in the Junior School, and it was fantastic to see so many smiling faces. It is always a pleasure to share the opportunities on offer at all the Foundation Schools with our families so I would like to draw your attention to the Warwick School Open Evening on Friday 4th July which provides a great chance for parents and boys to experience the next stage in their Warwick School journey.

    Wishing you a happy weekend,

    John Bond
