  • Year 3 Cricket Festival

    Published 15/05/25

The 1st XI outfield at Warwick School was buzzing with excitement as Year 3 pupils from Warwick Junior School, Warwick Prep, The Kingsley School, and The Croft came together for a Festival of Cricket.

The pupils enjoyed a mix of kwik cricket and pairs cricket matches, showcasing the bowling, batting and fielding skills they have been working on so hard this term. It was great to see teamwork, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.

It was lovely to see so many parents on the sidelines, supporting the players in what was for many their first experience of a cricket match. The children mixed brilliantly across schools, forming new friendships and sharing in the joy of the game.

The festival ended with everyone enjoying a well-deserved ice cream. It was just a pity that the sun wasn't shining, as it has been all week!

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 9 May

    Published 09/05/25

Every week, I have boys visit my office to receive a Headmaster’s Commendation. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to see what the boys have been doing and talk to them about their learning. A particular highlight this week was to see some of the work the boys completed at the end of last term during open homework week. I watched two documentaries based on the theme of ‘Earth Day’, one produced by Artie on the importance of bees to our environment and one made by Ted on the dangers of pollution. James also designed and built his own bird feeder and hedgehog house to encourage wildlife in his garden. It is a pleasure to see the skills and knowledge the boys obtain in school being applied in such creative and interesting ways.

The breadth of opportunity on offer at the Junior School continues to be evident. Since the start of term we have seen a fantastic Year 4 art exhibition, the wonderful achievement of the boys qualifying for the IAPS national swimming finals, and the final preparations as some of the boys travel to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire next Monday to record their own music tracks. Year 6 also continue to work hard in their rehearsals for Aladdin Jr.

Thank you for all your continued support of your sons and I wish you all a restful weekend.

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 2 May

    Published 01/05/25

It was great to welcome the boys back this week. With the warmer weather, it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the fields at lunchtime. On Wednesday afternoon, some of the Year 6 boys also enjoyed the first cricket fixture of the season– summer has arrived!

In assembly on Tuesday, we continued to look at our Learning Strength, Reflectiveness. I asked the boys to reflect on the words of the late Pope Francis: ‘I invite you not to build walls but bridges, to conquer evil with good, offence with forgiveness, to live in peace with everyone.’ I challenged the boys to build bridges with their friends and peers, especially with the new boys who have joined us this term. Building bridges with others isn’t always easy and can take time, but through kind and empathetic words and actions, we develop positive friendships and relationships with others.

A highlight this week was spending some time looking at the Year 4 Art Exhibition in Warwick Hall. In a joint initiative with the Prep School, it was a pleasure to see the creativity at work from both the boys and girls.

With best wishes for the Bank Holiday weekend,
    John Bond

  • Terra House Charity Day

    Published 04/04/25

On Friday, 28 March, Terra House hosted their charity day in aid of their chosen animal charity, the RSPCA.

The boys in Terra House came up with three different ways that everyone could get involved in to help raise money:

Firstly, the boys were asked to dress up in something beginning with R, S, P, C, or A, and to bring in a £1 donation.

Secondly, 'Terra’s Treasure Chest' encouraged boys to bring in something that would enrich the life of an animal in need, and the school received donations of canned food, small pet toys, and enrichment games for small pets. This was then all donated to the nearest RSPCA centre.

Finally, 'Terra’s Terrible Tuckshop' saw boys in Terra House donate sweets and chocolate to be sold at lunchtime, with items being sold for 50p each.

Overall, Terra House raised nearly £550, along with lots of donations for the local RSPCA branch. Well done to Terra House for organising a successful charity day this term, and thank you for all of the donations and to the boys who participated.

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 4 April

    Published 04/04/25

In assembly this week, the boys were asked to engage their most reflective and philosophical muscles to consider the question, ‘What makes me, me?’

Using the thought experiment, ‘The Ship of Theseus’, I asked the boys to reflect on whether an object that has had all of its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object. This led us to further discussion about what gives something its identity and meaning and what that means for us as human beings as we change and grow through our lives – all nice easy questions for a Monday morning!

As always, the boys engaged enthusiastically with these challenging questions, and I left them to ponder what it is that makes them who they are. If you would like to consider some of the questions raised by ‘The Ship of Theseus’ paradox yourself, and discuss them further with your son, then you can view the video we discussed here

Well done to Year 3 and 4 who went on their residential earlier this week. The staff were hugely impressed by their determination, enthsuaism and teamwork throughout the three days. On Wednesday, the school was very quiet as not only were Year 3 and 4 still in the Peak District but Year 5 visited the Botanical Gardens. With Year 6 off to Bletchley Park today, it’s been a busy week where the boys have got out of the classroom and broadened their learning and experiences.

Next week brings us to the end of the Lent term and a reminder that we finish at normal time on Wednesday. No clubs will run but there will be the usual after-school care until 5.45pm.

  • Year 3 and Year 4 visit to Mount Cook Adventure Centre, Derbyshire

    Published 03/04/25

From Monday, 31 March to Wednesday, 2 April, Year 3 and Year 4 pupils from Warwick Junior School embarked on an unforgettable residential trip to the Mount Cook Adventure Centre in Derbyshire. Blessed with wall-to-wall sunshine, the two-night trip was filled with excitement, learning, and camaraderie.

The Year 3 boys engaged in a variety of thrilling activities, including land karts, indoor climbing, and the Game of Tribes. They also participated in an archaeological dig, archery, bone working, and fibre craft. The evenings were equally adventurous, with firemaking skills and rocket building sessions. Throughout these activities, the boys demonstrated empathy and resilience, working together and supporting each other through challenges.

Year 4 students took on more challenging pursuits, such as high ropes, ziplining off the top of the accommodation block, off-site orienteering, scrambling, and rock climbing. Their evenings were filled with abseiling and the Mount Cook challenge. The boys showed remarkable focus and independence, tackling each activity with enthusiasm and determination. Their ability to communicate effectively and take responsibility for their actions was evident throughout the trip.

The boys stayed in dormitories of 4 or 6, which led to some late nights filled with laughter and bonding. Despite the excitement, they made the most of every opportunity presented to them, demonstrating creativity and reflectiveness in their approach to the various activities. The food at Mount Cook was fantastic, providing the boys with the energy needed for their action-packed days. The Mount Cook staff were brilliant, offering support and guidance throughout the trip.

In conclusion, the trip was a resounding success, with the boys not only having fun but also developing important life skills. The combination of excellent weather, well-organised activities, and supportive staff made this an unforgettable adventure for everyone involved. The Year 3s are already looking forward to returning next year as Year 4s to experience the thrilling zip line!

A heartfelt thank you to all the staff who made this trip possible. Their dedication and hard work ensured that the boys had a safe, enjoyable, and enriching experience. The boys returned home with wonderful memories, having had a fantastic time at Mount Cook.

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 28 March

    Published 28/03/25

In line with our current learning strength, reflectiveness, I have been reflecting on one of the weekly awards we give out in our Friday Celebration Assembly.

The Care, Courtesy and Consideration awards are nominated by teachers, and sometimes pupils, to acknowledge acts of care, courtesy and consideration around the school. I wanted to share with you some of the reasons why our boys have been nominated for these awards this term:

    • For, without being asked, creating a class poster, recognising all of the strengths of the boys in their class.

    • For helping another boy catch up with his work after he had missed the start of the lesson, without being asked.

    • For constantly being kind and thoughtful, holding doors open and carrying other pupils' bags when they are overloaded.

    • For a caring and supportive response by the whole form in reacting to one of their peers receiving a headmaster's commendation in science for an outstanding improvement between topic tests.

    • For encouraging and checking in on another member of the form during Play Week when they were finding the week very tiring.

    • For greeting a member of staff at the playground gate with the most infectious smile and ‘good morning’.

    • For being beautifully polite in introducing himself to a new member of staff.

    • For taking the initiative to help organise a class 'Get Well Soon' card for a boy who was absent and giving up time during his lunchtime club to do this.

    • For giving up his Code Club time to help a new boy in his form login for the first time and get set up on the school network.

    • For noticing a fellow pupil was upset and getting a teacher to help

    • For seeing that a boy who arrived at lunch late was sitting alone. He came and asked the boy if he was OK and then moved to sit with him so he wouldn't be alone.

I could have provided many more nominations with over 50 acts of kindness before being recognised so far this term.

Well done to all the boys who have been recognised so far this term, but also well done and thank you to all the boys for the acts of care, courtesy and consideration which may go unnoticed but make the school community a supportive and welcoming place.

  • U10 football success!

    Published 27/03/25

The Warwick Junior U10A football team had an impressive run at a football tournament held at RGS the Grange this week.

The boys started strong, winning their first two games comfortably against Kings St Albans and The Elms. Although they faced a tough challenge in a competitive group game against RGS, which they lost, their overall performance allowed them to progress to the semi-finals.

In that crucial match, they defeated Winterfold, setting the stage for a rematch with RGS in the final. The boys excelled in the final showcasing excellent passing, organisation, and teamwork, which ultimately led them to a convincing 3-0 victory over RGS The Grange, making them the deserved overall winners of the tournament! • The Coventry Junior Open

    Published 25/03/25

On Sunday, 23 March, the Coventry Junior Open took place. This English Chess Federation rated chess tournament attracted a huge turnout of over 140 children, including a sizeable contingent from Warwick Junior School.

Some outstanding results were achieved! Bo was by far the youngest participant in the U18 Group C, but he scored a fantastic 3.5/5 for a silver medal, performing well above his rating in the process. In the U11 Group C, Sammy won bronze with 3/5, as did Jason in U11 Group D. In U11 Group E, Diego produced a tour-de-force performance in his first tournament outside of school to win gold and the section outright with 4.5/5. Then in U8 Group E, Alex won silver with a super 4/5.

Congratulations to all the prize winners and a big well done to each and every Warwick player!

  • Year 4 play - Gladis Baker, Gladiator

    Published 21/03/25

Year 4 stepped back in time to Ancient Rome for this year's play. The story took place in the Colosseum where the stage was set for the first ever Great Roman Bake-off! There were no gladiator fights, but the boys were whisked into a frenzy, beaten to a foam and knocked back in a competition where Flour was Power!

Orphan Gladis managed to escape the clutches of her miserable aunt and uncle by winning the Great Roman Bake Off and becoming the ‘Gladisbaker’.

The uplifting and cheery songs, alongside the impressive acting talents shown by the boys, made this show unforgettable for everyone who came to watch it.  Well done, Year 4!
