  • Mr Bond's week in review - 27 June

    Published 27/06/25

Courage was the theme of this week’s assembly. To be creative – our current learning strength – you often need courage; courage to present your ideas and your creations even though others may not appreciate them or think they would work. Courage is also an important quality in other areas of life such as standing up for what is right or owning up to mistakes. I explained to the boys that the word ‘courage’ derives from the Latin, ‘cor’ meaning heart and that it can take courage to follow our ‘heart’, to do what we feel or know is right. I left the boys to reflect on this quote - "Courage doesn’t mean we never feel scared—it means we face our fears and try anyway.”

This week saw an author visit for Years 3, 4 and 5 from Ben Lyttleton who inspired the boys about football (as well as a children’s writer, Ben is a sports/football journalist) but also about the power of stories. Year 6 spent Wednesday afternoon in the senior school as part of their preparation for Year 7. Yesterday evening, we were treated to the Summer Concert, a wonderful evening of entertainment from the orchestra, choirs, ensembles. Well done to all the performers. It was also a memorable evening for Miss Sharp as this was her last Junior School Concert after 13 years in role. The week ended with Ignis House Charity Day. Raising money for Cancer Research, the boys put on a fantastic ‘Market for Cure’. Including donations for wearing blue, pink or spots, and a huge penny line around the ground floor of the Junior School, the boys showed great support for such a worthwhile charity. Thank you to all the parents for your donations.

Next week continues to be jam-packed with Sports Days, cricket fixtures, Open Homework (on the theme of 'Belonging'), the PAWS Grab and Go and the Junior and Senior School Open Evening. Please note the items in the newsletter regarding the hot weather next week, Sports Day and changes to uniform on Monday and Tuesday.

    With best wishes,

    John Bond

  • Year 3 Art trip to St. Nicholas Park

    Published 20/06/25

On Thursday morning Year 3 made the journey across Myton Road to St. Nicholas Park to produce some observational drawings.

Each class visited three different locations in the park to produce three drawings. The boys were tasked with drawing a very small thing but bigger, a very large landscape in a small area and a continuous line drawing.

The boys thoroughly enjoyed each activity and would have happily spent much longer on their work given the opportunity.

The work produced will help inform the class work they are producing, which is inspired by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

  • Year 6 cricket link event

    Published 20/06/25

Pupils from Warwick Junior School and Warwick Prep School came together to play in an U11 cricket fixture against Blue Coat School, Birmingham.

The fixture featured four competitive hard ball matches and six exciting soft ball games, showcasing the skills and enthusiasm of both boys and girls across all teams.

The day was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to collaborate across schools, reconnect with old friends, and build new relationships. The mixed teams highlighted the inclusive spirit of the game, with players supporting one another and celebrating each other's successes.

This fixture not only provided a platform for sporting excellence but also laid a foundation for future teamwork and shared experiences.

Well done to everyone who took part!

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 20 June

    Published 20/06/25

In assembly this week, I spoke to the boys about the importance of laws and rules. We took a trip back in time to the 13th century and discussed how the behaviour and actions of King John angered his barons and led to Magna Carta, a document which shaped the future development of much of the western world. Magna Carta established the rule of law and the principle of a fair trial, two ideas which are fundamental to our system of justice.

This week, Year 5 had the opportunity to visit Warwick School to take part in some drama workshops. The U8, U9 and U11s enjoyed cricket fixtures and some Year 3 and 4 boys took part in the rearranged Warwickshire Athletics. Year 3 had an Art Trip to St Nicholas’ Park and had a lesson in the Science Lab with Mr Lewis.

Congratulations to those boys in Classics Club who with pupils and staff from the Prep School, wrote and starred in their own production of The Twelve Labours of Hercules this week.

Next week, we have an author visit for Years 3, 4 and 5, an induction activity in the senior school for Year 6, the Summer Concert, the second Year 3 and 4 Parents’ Evening and Ignis House Charity Day. As we near the end of the summer term, there are a number of events for boys and parents over the coming weeks, so please do take note of the newsletter updates and any communications from school.

    With best wishes,

    John Bond

  • Ignis Charity Day information

    Published 19/06/25

Today the boys will be told all about the exciting plans for the Ignis Charity day. Back in September, Finn, the Ignis House Charity Representative,  put together a convincing case for the house to support Cancer Research UK. He was thrilled when his charity was chosen.

Please help Finn and the other members of Ignis to raise as much money for this worthwhile cause as possible by sending in any unwanted toys, books, soft toys, puzzles or games to school next week (they can be used, but not damaged or broken). We are going to use these to host our 'Market for a Cure,' where the boys will have an opportunity to buy items, grabbing themselves a bargain and raising money. The items can be given to Year 6 boys via your son or handed into the office.

We will also be having a cake stand in our market, so we would be grateful if boys could bring in cakes on the morning of Friday, 27 June so that they can be sold in the market. Any cakes should be taken to the library - as usual, no nuts and if the cakes are home-made please supply the ingredients.

Other ways we are raising money is by asking the boys to pay £1 to come to school in something pink, blue or spotted (in line with the Cancer Research logo) instead of their school uniform. There will also be an exciting penny line where we will try to make the longest line of one pence and two pence pieces the school has ever seen!

Thank you in advance for the support you give the school with charity events, and we're sure this will be as equally successful as usual!

  • Warwick Junior School Golf Competition

    Published 19/06/25

On Tuesday, 12 boys took part in the annual Junior School par 3 competition. For the first time, this event was a team event which worked brilliantly for the boys to play together with a shared goal.

Teams of four played a 'Texas scramble' over nine holes at Stoneleigh Deer Park in beautiful sunshine.

The standard of golf was excellent and the experience the boys gained playing a course and having to manage strategy and shot selection will stand them in good stead as their golf careers progress.

It was an incredibly close contest. Team 2 (Théo, Ike, Harry and Noah) made a very respectable score of 6 over par for their 9 holes. Team 1 (Louis, Jasper, Alfie and Oscar) tied with Team 3 (Bo, Quincy, Zakk and Rory) with both teams managing an excellent 4 over par. Both teams managed chip-in birdies to keep the scores tied.

A sudden death playoff ensued and was won by team 1 with the final putt! A dramatic conclusion to an excellent afternoon of golf.

If your son is interested in golf or you want to know more about what the school offers our golfers, please get in touch with Mr Herringshaw (o.herringshaw@warwickschools.co.uk).

  • IAPS National Swimming Finals 2025

    Published 13/06/25

On Saturday, 7 June, Warwick Junior School had the honour of competing in the IAPS National Swimming Finals 2025, held at the world-renowned London Aquatics Centre.

Our boys performed amazingly, not only in the pool but also in the way they conducted themselves throughout the afternoon. Their sportsmanship, team spirit, and determination were a credit to themselves and to the school.

The Year 6 team, made up of Jake, Joshua, Harrison, and Harry, qualified for the U11 Medley Relay. In their heat, they delivered a remarkable performance, knocking an impressive six seconds off their qualifying time and finishing 11th in the country.

The Year 5 team, consisting of Leon, George, Jasper, and Arlo, qualified for both the Medley and Freestyle Relay Finals. In both events, they swam with incredible energy and focus, finishing 5th overall. After a false start, all teams were reinstated into the race and asked to swim the heat again, resulting in the team missing out on a podium finish by less than a second.

Several of our swimmers also qualified for individual finals, placing them amongst the top 20 swimmers in the country in their respective events. George gave a valiant effort in the 50m Butterfly, finishing 19th in a very strong field. Jake came agonisingly close to a medal in the U11 50m Butterfly, finishing 5th in a blanket finish — just a tenth of a second behind third place and only 1.5 seconds behind the winner. Leon ended the day on a high note with an amazing swim in the U10 50m Breaststroke, securing an impressive 2nd place. His time of 41 seconds was just seven-tenths of a second behind the gold medallist, who set a new IAPS national record.

The boys should be incredibly proud of their achievements, and we are immensely proud of the way they represented the school on such a prestigious stage. Well done to all!

  • Mr Bond's week in review - 13 June

    Published 13/06/25

Creativity was the focus of the assembly this week as we started out looking at our last learning strength of the academic year. We looked at the early patents of inventions such as a maglev train, solar cells and GPS, all of which, when first proposed, were not seen as credible inventions. However, as time has progressed, these creative ideas have become key technological advances which have shaped our world today. Not all inventions are groundbreaking and the boys enjoyed hearing about the hayfever hat, napping pillow and cereal serving device! I shared with the boys the picture book story, ‘What do you do with an Idea’ by Kobi Yamada which asked them to reflect on being patient with ideas, nurturing them and allowing  them to grow so that someday they may not only give us joy but may even change the world.

This was a very busy week at the Junior School. There were some fantastic results from the IAPS National Swimming Championships last weekend; well done to all the boys involved and please read Mr Burchett’s report on the Championships in this newsletter. There were also a number of cricket and athletic fixtures this week and also a very successful Year 4 tennis link day with Warwick Prep School.

A highlight of the week was the House Music competition where boys from across the age groups sung, played and performed with great skill and confidence in representing their house. We were joined by Mr Mann, the Head of Music from Warwick School ,and he was hugely impressed by the performances and also by the fact the boys organised and rehearsed their pieces with very little adult support. Well done to all the boys who auditioned and also those who participated in the final round

Year 5 have been enjoying the Dorset coast on their residential this week. It sounds like they are having a great time, and we look forward to hearing more about it on their return.

    With best wishes,

    John Bond

  • Sixth annual Warwick Junior School Aquathlon

    Published 13/06/25

On Friday, 6 June, pupils took part in the sixth annual Warwick Junior School Aquathlon, and what a brilliant afternoon it was! With the weather being an improvement on last year, it created the perfect conditions for an afternoon full of energy, excitement, and team spirit.

Throughout the event, boys from every year group demonstrated a wonderful attitude. They stayed focused during their races and supported one another with lots of encouragement. It was clear to see how our school’s learning strengths—resilience, focus, independence, and responsibility—were being put into action in every splash and stride.

The event was particularly special for our Year 3 boys, who were taking part in the aquathlon for the very first time. Even though a few boys took an unexpected turn on the running course, they showed great determination and handled the challenge with enthusiasm. Their efforts were a fantastic example of the resilience and independence we encourage in all our pupils.

The aquathlon is not just about individual performance; it’s all about celebrating teamwork and camaraderie. From helping each other prepare, to cheering on friends at the finish line, the sense of community was inspiring. Every boy raced not only for himself but for his house, earning valuable points in this exciting house competition.

After a closely contested event, congratulations go to Terra House who were crowned this year's champions. Congratulations must also go to the top three finishers in each year:
