Cricket 2022 bats off

What an outstanding first weekend of cricket we had against RGS Worcester: 60 cricketers, 6 staff, 4 wins, one century, 6 half-centuries, and ten 1st XI debuts.

The 1st XI recovered from a very shaky start of 7 runs for 3 wickets to recover to a hard-fought 204, thanks to a magnificent 116-run partnership between Harrison (55) and Toby (54) and an aggressive 34 from Osian. A steady flow of wickets kept the school in the hunt for victory until the final 10 overs when the opposition's no.4 completed his century and smashed his team to victory in the penultimate over. Plenty of positives to take into today's T20 before the weekend's fixtures against Abingdon and Malvern College in the National Cup on Sunday.

The U15's began superbly with a well-constructed start of 72-0 off 12 overs but then suffered a wobble at 81 for 3 off 20 overs. Keeran 72 and Ed 48 not out, smashed the final ten overs to take the team to 206. This was too much for the opposition with Ollie blasting their top 3 in his opening spell. The other bowlers played their part keeping the runs down and finally dismissing the opposition for 108.

The U14A's had Mr Cooley gushing with praise for a 'practically perfect' batting display, notably one of the best constructed and destructive batting displays in all of his time in school cricket. The boys set a record 247 runs losing only 3 wickets in 30 overs. A phenomenal inning by Isaac, scoring his first-ever century, supported by Charlie 79 and captain Turan 25.

The U13's had a fabulously exciting game as they chased 173 runs to win. A great start by Finton set the team on their way as he compiled 57, before Ranveer hit the penultimate ball of the innings to the boundary to secure a tense win by just 2 wickets.

A good opening game for the U12s bowling RGS out for 102 off 19.4 overs. Fateh was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for 24 runs. Will and Henry opened the batting and set about chasing down the total. With excellent shot selection, they reached the total in just 13.2 overs. Will finished on 53 not out and Henry 30 not out. An excellent first game with lots of promise.
