U16 table tennis team compete in South of England regional final
On Sunday, 5 February, the U16 table tennis team competed in the South of England regional final in Bristol.
Despite the 7.00am departure they started brightly with a 7-1 victory over Bournemouth School. The second match was closer, but Warwick recorded another emphatic 7-1 defeat of Tunbridge Wells Grammar School, with Toby John and Yannic Fowler battling for good wins against tough opponents. This set up what was effectively a final against Whitgift, who also won their first two matches, and were fielding a team full of experience. Rex Wong and Starry Sheung set the tone with too much power, touch and consistency for the Whitgift number 1 and 2. Toby kept calm in a tight match to record an excellent win. It continued to go well Yannic and Toby both fighting hard for victory in their final matches. Warwick emerged emphatic winners and secured a place in the national final in April, as one four teams in the country. Given that the oldest members of our team are Year 9, this an extraordinary achievement, well done!
