Regional Winner at the Performing Shakespeare Competition

Since September, a group of Year 9 students have been working towards a performance that encompasses both acting and oracy skills as part of the ESU Performing Shakespeare competition.

Having progressed through three knock-out rounds, we were delighted that one of our students, yet again, made it through to the Regional Final in Birmingham. The ESU is an organisation created 'to engage with the world, to speak more confidently and to listen to and understand different points of view'. These skills improve young people’s attainment, emotional intelligence and social skills, helping them to live their lives to the fullest.

Angelo F competed in the Regional Finals at King Edward’s School in Edgebaston. He has worked really diligently and steadily to get to this round. He performed against seven other students from schools from Shropshire to Northamptonshire and the competition was really tough. There were performances from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Othello and Twelfth Night. Ultimately, only one student could progress to the National Finals in London.

Angelo was calm, humble and incredibly focused. The quality of his work was outstanding and there was a tense silence in the room when he performed. He was an absolute credit to Warwick School.

Winning this stage is a huge achievement and is the second year in a row a Warwick student has made Finals Day. This means, following Harvey Eaton’s footsteps, he will perform on the Globe Theatre stage. For context, the competition usually starts with 2000 students and he has made the last eleven.

Angelo will be performing on 12 June on the Sam Wannamaker stage at the Globe Theatre - we wish him every success.
