Celebratory chess event

On Sunday, 22 June, Gregory K (Year 9) and Ilyas R (Year 6) took part in a very special chess event.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Kenilworth Chess Club, a simultaneous display was delivered in the town by Grandmaster Mickey Adams, the UK's strongest ever chess player and the former world number 4, in which he played against 30 local players at the same time.

Gregory and llyas were delighted to be selected to take part, and although they both succumbed to the skill of their legendary opponent after hours of battle, they did themselves proud with their play.

Mickey was so impressed by Ilyas' standard of play that he awarded him a signed copy of his book 'Think Like A Super Grandmaster' at the end of the display, capping what was a memorable experience for the boys.
