More chess success for Warwick boys!

On the weekend of 20-21 September, the Warwickshire Rapidplay and Blitz Chess Championships took place. The tournament was rated by both the English Chess Federation (ECF) and FIDE (The International Chess Federation) and attracted a good turnout from the county's chess players, ranging from experienced club players all the way up to chess masters.
In the mix were three players from Warwick Senior and Warwick Junior School. In the U1500 Rapidplay, James (Year 6) was playing in his first ever adult chess tournament, but showed he belonged by scoring a fine 3.5/7, which included beating several adult opponents, and gaining nearly 100 rating points.
the U1500 Blitz, Gregory (Year 10) finished in an excellent third place and would have been in running for top spot if it were not for a final round reversal.
The final word goes to Candidate Master Billy (Year 9) who finished in outright second in the Open Rapidplay just half a point behind the top seed, who he then beat the following day in the Blitz to be crowned the 2025 Warwickshire Blitz Chess Champion aged just 13 years.
Congratulations to all three for some fine performances!
