Chess success on home soil for Warwick boys!

On Saturday, 10 January, the Warwick Junior Open todsok place on home soil, at the Bridge Sports Centre, Warwick School. This junior chess tournament, rated by the English Chess Federation (ECF) and organised by the Warwickshire Chess Association (WCA), attracted a large turnout of boys from both the Junior and Senior Schools. There were some terrific individual performances, much to the delight of Mr Lam who was in attendance and presented the prizes in his capacity as Head Coach for the WCA.

In U8 Group D, Rideh won a bronze medal, a fantastic achievement considering that Rideh was competing in his first ever chess tournament outside of school and only started playing chess at the start of last term!

There was a glut of medals achieved in U9 Group D, with bronze going to Ansh and Eddie and silver for Matthias and Arthur. In U11 Group D, Jason also took home a silver medal, as did James in a very strong U11 Group A.

In the secondary sections, boys from the Senior School were just as impressive. Monty produced a tour-de-force to win U18 Group C outright and take home a gold medal. In U18 Group B, Ajay won a silver medal, drawing his final round game against teammate David, who was the outright winner of the section and earned another gold medal.

Congratulations to all the prizewinners and to every single competitor from Warwick, many of whom were playing in their maiden chess tournament. You did yourselves and school proud!
