Over the weekend of Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February, the second round of the 4NCL - the junior wing of the British National Chess League – took place. Gregory, Year 10, was selected to play on Board 4 for the Warwickshire A team in the top division, scoring an impressive 3/5 and helping The Bears secure an excellent second‑place finish.
Gregory also played a significant non‑playing role in the final of the Warwickshire Primary Schools Team Chess Championship, held at Solihull School on Saturday 7 February. The event was overseen by English Chess Federation Events Director and Chief Arbiter, Alex Holowczak.
As one of the youngest qualified chess arbiters in the country, Gregory once again demonstrated why he has been singled out for great potential within the profession. Serving as Deputy Chief Arbiter, he carried out his duties with his trademark calmness, professionalism and expertise — and even presented the certificates and medals during the prize‑giving ceremony.
Congratulations to Gregory for his outstanding contributions and for representing Warwick with such skill and maturity at both events.
