Billy and chess prove a hit with football fans!

During the Easter break, chess and football came together for Warwick’s resident chess master, Billy, who was invited as a special guest to the Coventry City FC vs Derby County match.

Billy attended the fixture to help promote the upcoming British Chess Championships, joining Mr Lam and former Warwick School teacher Mr Ward, who were representing the English Chess Federation. The occasion provided a unique opportunity to showcase chess to a wider audience and highlight the growing national profile of the Championships.

It proved a great success and the many fans who attended were left awestruck by the skills on display from Billy and others. The event has already caught the attention of FIDE – the International Chess Federation – who have published a report about it on their website.
