Excellent results at British Fencing Youth Championships

Over the May bank holiday weekend, British Fencing hosted their British Youth Championships National Age Group Finals at the England Institute of Sport in Sheffield. We were proud to have several of our fencers competing at this prestigious event.

On Sunday, Adrian took part in the Under-18 Sabre. He began strongly in the pool stage, recording three victories and two losses to secure 15th seed. Receiving a bye through the round of 64, Adrian won his last 32 fights 15-7. In the last 16, Adrian defeated the number two seed, 15-10, to make it into the last eight and secure a finalist medal.

Building on this momentum, Adrian then won again in the quarter-finals, 15-11, for a place in the semi-finals. There he faced a tough opponent and, despite a determined effort, he was narrowly defeated 15-11, finishing in third place with an excellent bronze medal.

On Monday, Aaryan and Sebastion competed in the Under-12 Epee. Both boys are very much at the start of their fencing career and have never been to anything quite like the British Youth Championships before.

Aaryn impressed in the pool stage, securing four victories to earn 9th seed and a bye through the round of 64. Sebastion securing two victories, and went on to fence the last 64 round, winning 10-8 to join Aaryan in the next round.

In the round of 32, both fencers faced strong opposition. Aaryn was defeated 10-4 and Sebastian 10-3 to the top seed.

Aaryan finished in 17th place with Sebastian placing 30th out of 46 competitors.

Well done to all three fencers for their excellent efforts and achievements at a highly competitive national event.
