Warwick Voice champions inclusion through Diversity Week

Last week, pupils in the Warwick Voice Pride and Allyship Committee organised Diversity Week, a series of events designed to celebrate inclusion and help ensure that every member of the school community feels respected, valued and supported.
The week formed part of the committee’s ongoing work to promote understanding and awareness around LGBT+ issues. Alongside these initiatives, pupils can also attend the school’s weekly LGBT Society, which provides a safe and welcoming space to discuss concerns, seek support and offer encouragement to others who may be facing challenges around coming out or their identity.
A key feature of Diversity Week was a programme of assemblies tailored to each section of the school, encouraging age-appropriate discussions and learning.
In Lower School, pupils explored how they can support a friend who chooses to share that they are gay. The assembly focused on the importance of listening, showing kindness and being an ally to others.
Middle School pupils looked at the history of LGBT+ people and communities, learning about the challenges overcome and the progress that has been made towards greater equality and acceptance.
The Upper School assembly centred on Olympic diver Tom Daley. Pupils heard about his outstanding sporting achievements, as well as the homophobic bullying he experienced during his teenage years. The session highlighted the importance of resilience, respect and creating environments where everyone can thrive.
Meanwhile, Sixth Form students welcomed back an Old Warwickian who spoke candidly about his own experiences at school. He reflected on dealing with casual homophobic comments and shared how friends, teachers and fellow pupils responded when he came out as gay during his time in the Sixth Form. His honesty and insight provided a powerful perspective on the importance of support and understanding.
Through Diversity Week, the Warwick Voice Pride and Allyship Committee encouraged meaningful conversation across the school, helping to foster a culture where differences are celebrated and every individual feels able to be themselves.
