Year 7 Music Scheme

All pupils who join us in Year 7 take part in a unique musical programme known as the ‘Year 7 Music Scheme’.

This unique scheme provides the opportunity for pupils to play an orchestral instrument, with weekly expert tuition and an instrument to take home for practice. Pupils also take part in a variety of performances and activities throughout the year, and work on projects such as composition, music technology, ensemble skills, improvisation, performance practice, theory and aural skills.

Studies have also proven that playing a musical instrument can be a fun, engaging and an interactive way of learning music. It helps strengthen our brain functions and cognitive abilities which in the long run can assist towards improving GCSE and A Level results. Wider benefits also include cultivating creativity, time management, building confidence, social skills, reducing stress and having a sense of achievement.

Every year, pupils enrolled in the scheme come together for a joint performance to showcase their musical talents and what they have achieved in their new musical ventures.

Watch a video where pupils share their experience of the scheme and their time so far as musicians in the Foundation schools.
