Radar Control Sessions for RAF cadets at Warwick School

We recently installed ATC simulation software that allows our cadets to try out radar approach control.
The software offers the opportunity to learn how approach controllers separate and sequence aircraft for arrivals into busy airports. Cadets must descend, vector and speed-control arriving aircraft as a continuous flow of traffic whilst maintaining suitably safe separation of all aircraft.
Initially we focused on London Heathrow and Amsterdam’s Schiphol’s complex runway configurations, but other airports are available. The simulation can also set the volume of aircraft arriving at any given time to really challenge our cadets. The pupils observed several aircraft being sequenced for landing at Heathrow using this software. Here, 5 aircraft are on final approach for runway 27R, with a further 8 aircraft being vectored for final.
