Skiing National Finals 2025

The Ski Team has had a busy start to the new year with the English School’s Ski Association (ESSkiA) Qualifying event at Swadlincote and the recent ESSkiA National Finals at Norwich.

At the qualifier, the Warwick teams, placed second and third with Tom G, Dan G, Josh D, Charlie L, Monty H, Fenton C and Winston K skiing. Winners, Solihull, were a mere 0.66 of a second ahead of the second placed team!

In light of these results, the second placed team then progressed to the ESSkiA Finals weekend at Norwich, which took place this past weekend. The Saturday of the weekend is the 'Age Group Championships', with teams from all five national qualifying races in attendance. Our team of Tom, Dan, Monty and Fenton skied to sixth place in their age group. A great result against some very high standard racers and fully justifying their place at this level.

Sunday is the ‘Open Championships’ where each school is permitted to enter two teams. Sadly, due to rugby commitments, we were only able to enter one team, but by skiing into eighth place, the same team as Saturday managed to secure one of the spots to attend the British Championships – this year being held on our home training slope at Swadlincote in late November.

The Ski Team is a genuinely Warwick Schools Foundation wide activity with the girls from Kings High also making the Finals weekend, placing fifth and sixth in their respective races and also proceeding to the British Championships. The girls from Warwick Prep also made it to Norwich, also finishing sixth.

We are always looking for new, keen skiers to join the race team, so if this is of interest, please contact the Directors of Sport in the first instance – we’d love to see more skiers attacking the gates.
