Warwick chess players produce fireworks in the Four Nations Chess League!

On the weekend of 29-30 November, the Junior Four Nations Chess League (4NCL), the children's wing of the British National Chess League, took place in nearby Coventry.

Mr Lam was in attendance with his Warwickshire Junior Chess Squad Head Coach cap on, accompanied by Gregory of the Senior School and James of the Junior School, both of whom had been selected to play for one of the county's four teams across the two divisions.

Gregory scored 2.5/5 on board 4 for the Warwickshire Bears A team, helping the team to finish the first J4NCL weekend of the season in third place in division 1, an excellent achievement.

James also scored 2.5/5 playing on top board for the Warwickshire Cubs team, which produced the most remarkable performance of the whole weekend.

The team, with an average age of just eight years, won all of their matches to finish top of division 2! Some sparkling chess was played by both boys, with highlights including Gregory's miniature from round 4, which he won crushingly in the opening, and James' brilliant rook sacrifice to force checkmate in his round 1 game.
