Two events during the last week left a major impression. On Thursday afternoon the Halse Pavilion was full of parents and Year 6 boys to mark the culmination of the boys' Young Enterprise Project. For the last two weeks the boys spent a number of their lessons forming groups, deciding on a company name and then what product they wished to bring to market. The boys produced questionnaires as part of their research before deciding on the food item they wished to manufacture, market and sell.

Alongside all the busyness of the end of term, the task of reading through reports and making comments about the boys is one that awaits me this weekend. It is always a major investment in time for teachers to summarise each boy’s year and to look towards future improvements.

The demands on a Headteacher know no bounds, particularly at this most busy time of the term. On Friday I was summoned to conduct the most challenging task of the year to date: the semi-final adjudication of the Great Junior School Bake Off. This saw four of the finest young bakers in Warwickshire vying to secure a place in the final.

On Monday morning I showed the school some of the pictures from last week's residential to Barnswood. I talked about some of the activities the boys did whilst away.

After a busy week of Jubilee celebrations, it was good to be back to start the busiest half term of the year. No doubt as this newsletter is sent out, we will be returning from the Year 5 bushcraft camp. The events and fixtures come thick and fast, as demonstrated in the plan for next week.

As can be seen above, this has been a special week for boys receiving their Junior School Diploma. Two boys, Xander and Samuel were given their platinum diplomas - a remarkable achievement and reward for their full commitment to school life. Boys achieving their gold and platinum awards will be re-presented with their awards at Speech Day.

Following a long tradition of not watching any rehearsals, I sat down yesterday evening in the Bridge House Theatre to watch Year 6's production of Matilda. Whilst I knew it was going to be good based upon the year group's amazing Year 4 production, I hadn't quite prepared myself for the quality of acting, music and the boys' singing.

Two very special and fun competitions took place last week on Friday after school. Both were similar in that the format allowed younger and older pupils to compete on equal terms.

I hope all the boys and families enjoyed the extended bank holiday weekend. As with all weeks this term, there are always some major events to look forward to. This week was no different with the U11s taking part in the Independent School Football Association finals and 160 boys heading off to the World Events Arena.

It was good to see the boys and staff returning, refreshed and raring to go. The boys have very much enjoyed being outside with the chance to play football on the fields, enjoying the space and some fun competition. I have been out with the boys each lunchtime keeping an eye both on any over-exuberant tackling and to adjudicate on any disputed goal claims.

I know that the staff and boys will be happy leaving this afternoon with the prospect of the Easter break ahead. It has been a long stretch since returning after Christmas. Whilst hard, it has also been a most rewarding term with an outstanding concert, Year 4 play and sporting successes. It has also been one of the most exhausting terms I can recall with a revolving door of staff away and exceptional demands made on remaining staff in school. I know I speak for all parents in thanking staff for all their efforts.

I hope some of the boys will have seen the pictures in the news showing images of the Endurance, Shackleton's ship, after its recent discovery 9,842 feet below the surface of the Weddell Sea. This discovery provided the inspiration for my assembly on Monday.
